As per insights from NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the Miami Dolphins have arranged a meeting with University of Kansas pass rusher Austin Booker, set to occur next week.
Considering their need for edge rushers in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, especially due to the injuries to their star duo Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, who both ended the 2023 season on injured reserve with ACL and Achilles tears respectively, the Dolphins are exploring options. Chubb and Phillips’ availability for the early part of the upcoming season remains uncertain.
While Booker is not projected to be a first-round pick, he could capture the Dolphins’ interest with their second-round selection at #55 overall. However, they face competition for his talents, as Pelissero notes Booker has already met with several other teams, including the Green Bay Packers, Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, and Kansas City Chiefs, with visits planned with the Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers.
Standing at an imposing 6’4 1/2″ and weighing 240 lbs, Booker boasts an impressive physical presence. Despite limited playing time in college, he showcased his abilities with eight sacks in 12 games during his final season with the Minnesota Golden Gophers and Kansas Jayhawks.
While Booker may lack experience, his athleticism suggests he’s primed for a larger role at the professional level. Pro Football Focus indicates he only saw 505 defensive snaps throughout his college career, yet his potential hints at a promising future once drafted.
