The University of Michigan Athletics Department announced on June 19 that Blake Corum (football) and Kari Miller (women’s tennis) are the 2023-24 U-M Athletes of the Year.
Corum, the 14th football player to receive this honor, also won the Big Ten Medal of Honor. He is noted for his academic achievements and his contributions on and off the field, including numerous records and community service initiatives. Corum was a standout player, finishing his 2023 season with multiple records and accolades, including 27 rushing touchdowns, a national championship, and extensive community involvement through events like his Thanksgiving meal drives.
Miller, the fourth women’s tennis player to earn this honor, led Michigan to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals and a Big Ten sweep. She achieved All-America honors in both singles and doubles, with a notable season-ending No. 5 singles ranking. Miller also excelled academically, being the first in program history to earn Academic All-America honors, and earned multiple All-Big Ten recognitions. She concluded her career with a strong singles and doubles record, ranking 10th all-time in singles wins for Michigan.
Miller reached the quarterfinals of both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships in 2023, earning her first All-America honors. Recently, she was named to the USTA Summer Collegiate Team, one of six women selected based on rankings, collegiate results, and ITA honors. Team members receive grants for travel to USTA Pro Circuit events and coaching support. Miller graduated with a BBA from Michigan’s Ross School of Business.
