According to a report, AC Milan is intent on retaining Mike Maignan and is looking to secure a contract extension with him within the next three months.
Concerns arose regarding Maignan’s condition after a collision with Slavia Praha’s right-back Tomas Vlcek during a recent match. Despite attempting to continue playing twice, he ultimately had to leave the field, prompting anxiety among the medical staff awaiting the results of his scan on Friday.
Fortunately, the tests revealed no ligament damage, alleviating fears commonly associated with knee impacts. Consequently, Maignan is set to start in today’s match against Verona at the Stadio Bentegodi.
As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera), AC Milan’s management is eager to secure Maignan’s long-term commitment. Discussions regarding his contract extension have been ongoing for several months, even though his current deal runs until June 2026.
Having signed a five-year contract worth approximately €2.8 million net per season in the summer of 2021, the club now faces the task of contemplating his future, especially considering Maignan’s status as one of the premier goalkeepers globally. With notable interest from various European powerhouses, Milan is keen to reach a new agreement with the 28-year-old before the European Championship in June.
With Maignan expected to be France’s starting goalkeeper in the tournament, standout performances could heighten demand for his services, potentially influencing his contract renewal negotiations.
