Collingwood High School received a threat earlier this year. Two guys are charged, and firearms are recovered following the school threat: OPPS

According to police, they discovered on Wednesday that Collingwood High School was threatened in March.

Following a threat made to Collingwood High School earlier this year, Ontario Provincial Police say they have charged two 18-year-old men and recovered multiple weapons. The Collingwood and Blue Mountains division of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) announced in a news release on Thursday that it was notified on Wednesday of a possible threat to Collingwood Collegiate Institute by a former student. According to police, the threat was made in March. Though they take threats seriously, the police stated that the “threat was not imminent”.

Our primary goal is ensuring public safety,” the OPP stated in the statement. When the OPP visited the former student’s residence in Clearview Township, they found many high-capacity magazines and two guns. According to authorities, the former student lacked a current firearms permit and the weapons and ammunition were all stored inappropriately. Additionally, according to police, they pulled over the ex-student’s car in a Collingwood parking lot on Cameron Street and took the driver and a passenger into custody. Police claimed to have found two imitation guns, pepper spray, bear spray, a knife, and brass knuckles during the arrest. An 18-year-old Clearview Township resident is accused of:

1. Outright threats to take lives.

2. Four counts of using a forbidden item for a harmful purpose in one’s possession.

3.Possession of a weapon for a hazardous purpose on three counts.

4. Unauthorised possession of two firearms that are forbidden or restricted.

5. Two offences for carrying a fake gun in a dangerous manner. Hold onto a forbidden device.

6. Three offences of negligently storing a weapon, handgun, restricted item, or ammunition. The driver of the car, an 18-year-old Collingwood resident, was accused of two charges of possessing a prohibited equipment for a dangerous purpose as well as violating a sentence order.

The two defendants were detained without bond and are scheduled to appear before the Barrie Ontario Court of Justice.
