Collingwood and Carlton announce significant off-field transfers.

Carlton Football Club has announced the appointment of Graham Wright as part of a succession plan that will see him take over from current chief executive Brian Cook. Cook is contracted until the end of 2025, with the transition expected to be completed within the next 12 months.

Club president Luke Sayers revealed that Wright was the standout candidate after a thorough selection process. “To have Graham Wright and Brian Cook working together during this transition period is invaluable for the club,” Sayers said. “We have appointed the best football leader in the country to guide our club.”

Wright, who previously served as the football boss at Collingwood, played a key role in building a team that secured the Magpies’ first premiership in 13 years in 2023. He took a sabbatical from Collingwood in 2024 but now returns to football leadership at Carlton.

Sayers also praised Brian Cook’s contributions, emphasizing his experience in building lasting success. “In recent years, we’ve focused on attracting leaders who understand what it takes to achieve success. Few are as qualified as Graham Wright,” he added.

Wright’s departure from Collingwood coincides with the announcement that Collingwood president Jeff Browne will step down, confirming that he will not seek re-election at the club’s AGM in December. Browne reflected on his three-year term with pride, citing the 2023 premiership as a highlight, despite the club missing the finals in 2024.

Browne expressed confidence in Collingwood’s strong position as he prepares to leave, saying, “I am proud of what we have achieved, and I leave knowing the club is in a much better place than when I began.”

Additionally, Collingwood board member Christine Holgate has also announced her departure ahead of the AGM. Holgate expressed gratitude for her time on the board, reaffirming her ongoing commitment to the club through her role as Chair of the Collingwood Community Foundation.
