Chris Sutton’s Bold Call: Sign Miller for Celtic, Retain Kuhn, and Leave Rangers in the Dust!

Celtic should seriously consider making a move for Lennon Miller in January, but there would be no benefit in selling Nicolas Kuhn at this stage.

With international week upon us, fans often turn to transfer rumors and “what-ifs,” and there’s been significant buzz around two key players. One of them, Lennon Miller, has been making waves with his performances for Motherwell and is one of the top young talents in Scotland. Celtic will undoubtedly be monitoring his progress, and it’s easy to see why. At just 19, Miller has already played over 50 games for Motherwell and stood out in many of them, including a notable performance against Celtic recently that Brendan Rodgers will surely have taken notice of. However, the question for both Miller and Celtic is whether he would feature regularly in the team right now. With Celtic’s midfield depth, including players like Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Arne Engels, and Paulo Bernardo, it’s unlikely that Miller would be a guaranteed starter at this moment. That said, he’s certainly a player for the future, and a potential solution could be for Celtic to sign him and then loan him out to continue his development.

Historically, Celtic has been a destination for the best Scottish talents, and Miller would fit into that tradition. The club has always benefitted from nurturing homegrown players, and this could be an opportunity to invest in a future star while keeping money within the Scottish game. Celtic is reportedly looking at a £5 million fee for Miller, which might seem high for a development player, but it’s an amount the club can afford. If Celtic acts quickly, they could secure Miller before other clubs, particularly Rangers, have the chance to make a move.

While Miller’s future at Celtic is still uncertain, there’s no immediate urgency regarding the future of Nicolas Kuhn. The winger has enjoyed an excellent start to the season, with standout performances in the Champions League, including a brilliant display against RB Leipzig. With clubs likely keeping an eye on his progress, there could be interest in January, but Celtic would be wise to resist selling at this point. Unless an overwhelming offer of £30 million or more comes in, there’s no reason for Celtic to part with Kuhn. The club is in a strong position financially, with Champions League revenue bolstering their coffers. There’s no pressure to sell, and Kuhn is enjoying his time at Celtic, playing in Europe’s top competition and in peak form.

Kuhn, like other Celtic players before him, understands that a big move will come when the time is right. Just look at the example of Matt O’Riley, who, despite interest from top clubs, remained focused and ultimately reaped the rewards. Kuhn should follow a similar path, continuing to perform at a high level, with the certainty that a move will come when the time is right. Given his current trajectory, he’s likely to be in the running for player of the year in Scotland, and his value will only increase. The big transfer will come in due time, but for now, he should stay put, continue to develop, and compete for silverware. If he does eventually leave, it’s likely his transfer fee could surpass the record set by previous Celtic stars like O’Riley, Jota, and Kieran Tierney. But for now, it’s clear that Kuhn’s future remains firmly at Celtic.
