Chris Grier puts a definitive stop to the Tua Tagovailoa contract controversy.

Debates about whether quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has done enough to establish himself as the Miami Dolphins’ long-term signal-caller have dominated much of the NFL offseason in South Florida. Some believe that Tagovailoa’s lack of postseason experience is concerning, but others are certain that his league-high 4,624 passing yards in 2023 will enough.

On Tuesday, general manager Chris Grier ended the discussion by stating that the Dolphins’ decision to extend Tagovailoa is a matter of when rather than if.

We’re thrilled that Tua has joined us,” Grier told reporters. The general manager told everyone that the Dolphins do not have plans to select a quarterback in the first round. “I’m not considering a quarterback in the first round,” We haven’t discussed that at all,” Grier clarified.

Regarding contract negotiations, the two sides have kept a constant channel of contact open in an effort to reach an agreement that will probably pay the signal-caller in the neighborhood of $50 million each year. As the NFL draft draws near, contract-related discussions will temporarily take a backseat.

High-level players frequently hold out as a bargaining chip. The quarterback for the Dolphins won’t have this experience because he has been at the facilities for the past few days. Tagovailoa’s presence is evidence of his commitment, which only serves to increase the franchise’s attraction to him.

“He aspires to greatness. Grier remarked, “He’s doing everything he can to be the best. “As Mike [McDaniel] has informed you all, we believe he has yet another step to take.”
