Charlotte Chavatipon has been chosen as the 2023-24 top scholar-athlete for women’s tennis in the conference.

Austin – Texas Women’s Tennis senior Charlotte Chavatipon has been honored as the Big 12 Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the 2023-24 season, the conference announced Wednesday.

Chavatipon, recently named to the 2023-24 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, is an applied movement science major with a 3.90 GPA. She is now a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection, a CSC Academic All-District honoree, and a multi-time ITA Scholar-Athlete.

This season, Chavatipon earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in singles and finished No. 73 in the ITA singles rankings. She compiled a 24-12 overall singles record, including 17-5 in dual match play, primarily at Nos. 3 and 4. In doubles, she registered a 17-7 overall mark, going 16-4 in dual matches with Vivian Ovrootsky, achieving an 8-2 record at both Nos. 2 and 3.

Throughout her career, Chavatipon is a four-time All-Big 12 selection in both singles and doubles, including first-team honors in 2023. She was a member of two NCAA Championship All-Tournament teams, selected at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles in 2021, and No. 2 doubles in 2022. She was also chosen for the Big 12 All-Tournament teams in both singles and doubles in those same years. Chavatipon accumulated 176 combined wins in her Longhorn career, including 90 in singles and 86 in doubles.

The Big 12 Conference established its Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award in 2012-13. A recipient is named in each conference-sponsored sport. Each Big 12 institution nominates one individual per sport, with the winners selected by a vote of the league head coaches for that sport, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominees must be a junior or senior (athletic and academic standing), have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher, participate in at least 20 percent of the team’s scheduled contests, and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution.
