Striker Ike Ugbo of Troyes, a French team, is apparently of interest to Birmingham City; nevertheless, Sheffield Wednesday of the Championship is a strong contender.
Following an outstanding stint on loan with The Owls in the second half of the season, the Canadian international is drawing attention. He joined the team in January and made 19 appearances against the lower division, contributing seven goals and one assist. Although his old club has put a £4.5 million price tag, manager Danny Rohl is unwilling to pay it in order to get him back to Hillsborough.Birmingham City, a competitive League One team, is also eager as they carry on with their massive spending binge. Alan Nixon, nevertheless, believes that it is improbable that the player will advance to the third tier at this point.
Before permanently leaving the Premier League team for Genk, Ugbo started his career at Chelsea. He rose through their system and had loan stints at Barnsley, MK Dons, Scunthorpe United, Roda FC, and Cercle Brugge. After that, he connected with Troyes, first on a loan arrangement that became permanent in 2022. He has since spent time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City. Will Big Spending Birmingham succeed once more? This transfer window, the Blues have not shied away from challenging Championship teams for quality, having already signed Marc Leonard, Willum Willumson, Emil Hansson, and Alfie May, among others, who might have all reasonably been playing in the second division or above.
This action, though, might be out of their league. Wednesday already has a relationship with the player, so he’ll probably come back to the Championship to stay longer if they can work out a deal. On the other hand, it might be another excellent attacking addition if Birmingham can persuade him to return to the third division.
