Celtic tipped to get ‘a hefty’ transfer fee after latest Matt O’Riley rumour emerges

With the transfer window fully open, Celtic fans are eagerly waiting for news on the club’s transfer activities. With numerous player links emerging, Brendan Rodgers faces the task of potentially replacing key players like Joe Hart and finalizing a deal for Adam Idah. However, while Celtic looks to bring in new talent, they also face the risk of losing some of their top players to European clubs, particularly Danish midfielder Matt O’Riley.

O’Riley has been heavily linked with Atletico Madrid for months. Andy Walker believes that the Parkhead club is likely to engage in transfer negotiations this summer. Reports from Spain indicate that Atletico would need to negotiate a contract termination with Saul Niguez to make room for O’Riley. Celtic has valued O’Riley at €40m (£34m), and Walker suggests that if this fee is offered, Celtic will likely sell.

Walker explained on The Go Radio Football Show, “If you’re talking about business at that level, Celtic will do business. That is their model. And no one would bat an eye, because Celtic tend to identify players in a much lower category, as they did with Matt O’Riley. Bring them to Glasgow, play him in the Scottish Premiership, fatten him up, sell him on. Wouldn’t be surprised if he goes, but it will be a hefty fee.” If Celtic receives such an offer for O’Riley, it is almost certain he will leave the club.

Celtic cannot afford to turn down that kind of money, and discussing fees of this magnitude showcases their adeptness in the transfer market. While the O’Riley saga may have more developments to come, it is clear that if the £34m valuation is met, the Denmark international will likely depart Glasgow this summer.
