Collins urges Celtic on O’Riley fee
John Collins believes his former club Celtic are justified in demanding a high transfer fee for their sought-after playmaker, Matt O’Riley. The 23-year-old has garnered interest from top clubs like Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and Southampton, while Atalanta has already had two bids rejected. O’Riley, a Danish international, showcased his talent once again in Celtic’s 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock on Sunday. Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Collins emphasized that Celtic should secure a substantial sum if they decide to sell him.
Collins questioned whether Celtic would dismiss a £15 million offer, comparing O’Riley to Scott McTominay, who is valued at £30 million. He expressed his admiration for McTominay but argued that O’Riley is a superior player with a more diverse skill set. According to Collins, McTominay does not excel in making forward passes, set-piece deliveries, or scoring and creating goals compared to O’Riley. He acknowledged that O’Riley plays in Scottish football but highlighted his excellent balance, vision, and ability to make precise passes. Collins also praised O’Riley’s capacity to interact with teammates, take shots from the edge of the box, and his positive attitude. At just 23, Collins believes O’Riley is an attractive prospect for any big club.
Hearts defender poised for new deal
Hearts are eager to secure a new contract for their experienced defender, Stephen Kingsley. The 30-year-old’s current agreement is set to expire at the end of the season, but head coach Steven Naismith is confident there won’t be any obstacles in getting the Scotland international to commit to another term in Gorgie.
Naismith expressed his optimism in an interview with the Edinburgh Evening News, stating, “I’m really confident that will get agreed and he will be here. I hope he’s here until he retires, if I’m honest. He is a really good pro, somebody who drives standards. He has got the experience of playing in Scotland, going down to England and playing at international level. He is a character we want to keep so I’m hoping that will get done.
Rangers linked with Liverpool starlet
Rangers are reportedly among the clubs interested in acquiring teenage Liverpool midfielder Bobby Clark. The 19-year-old, who is on the verge of breaking into Liverpool’s first team, may be loaned out as new manager Arne Slot assesses the squad and decides to allow certain players to seek playing time elsewhere.
The Athletic reports that Clark could be one of the players available for loan. In addition to Rangers, English Championship teams Leeds United, Sheffield United, Norwich City, and Coventry City are also vying for his signature. Furthermore, RB Salzburg has reportedly made a £6 million bid for Clark.
