Cam Newton’s top receiver was a former first-round pick for the Miami Dolphins.

In the 2007 draft, Ted Ginn Jr. was selected as the ninth overall pick and went on to play 193 games in his career.

Cam Newton, over his 11-year NFL career, made 4,474 pass attempts, often favoring a former Miami Dolphins first-round pick as his go-to wide receiver. Sharing on his podcast “4th & 1 with Cam Newton,” the 2015 MVP highlighted Ted Ginn Jr.’s impact during their time together with the Carolina Panthers.

Newton praised Ginn’s intelligence and emphasized that he was not utilized to his full potential until his Panthers tenure. Ginn, initially drafted ninth overall by the Dolphins in the 2007 NFL Draft, was traded to the San Francisco 49ers after limited success in Miami. However, it was with the Panthers that he truly flourished, particularly during Newton’s MVP season in 2015, where he showcased his speed and skill with 44 receptions for 739 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Throughout his 14-year career, Ginn also had stints with the New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, and Chicago Bears before retiring in 2021. Despite a challenging start in Miami, Ginn’s accomplishments include being part of the 2007 Pro Football Writers of America NFL All-Rookie Team, underscoring his resilience and impact in the league.
