Caleb Williams Sacked 9 Times as Bears’ Offense Crumbles in Brutal 19-3 Loss to Patriots

In a rough outing at Soldier Field, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was sacked nine times as the Bears’ offense struggled, managing just 142 total yards in a 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots. The Bears, who fell to 4-5, were hampered by a depleted offensive line that was missing three starters. Williams, who had been sacked six times just last week against the Arizona Cardinals, took a season-high nine sacks, resulting in a loss of 51 yards. One of these sacks forced the Bears out of field-goal range in the first quarter. Without starting left tackle Braxton Jones, right tackle Darnell Wright, and later losing left guard Teven Jenkins to an ankle injury, the Bears were forced to rely on a makeshift line with Larry Borom at left tackle, Doug Kramer at left guard, Ryan Bates at right guard, and Matt Pryor at right tackle. Center Coleman Shelton was the only player in his regular spot.

The Bears offense extended its touchdown drought to eight consecutive quarters in what proved to be one of their least productive games of the season. In total, they amassed only 142 yards, including a meager 69 net passing yards, as the Patriots (3-7) snapped Chicago’s eight-game home winning streak. This latest loss marked the Bears’ third consecutive defeat overall. Williams completed 16 of his 30 pass attempts for 120 yards, but the offense’s struggles were so pronounced that fans expressed their frustration with boos after several unsuccessful drives. Chicago hasn’t scored a touchdown since the fourth quarter of their Week 8 game against the Washington Commanders.

On defense, the Bears managed to contain Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, who completed 15 of 25 passes for 184 yards, a touchdown, and threw one interception to Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards. The Patriots’ only touchdown came in the second quarter on a 2-yard pass from Maye to Ja’Lynn Polk. By halftime, New England held a 13-3 lead and added two more field goals from kicker Joey Slye, from 25 and 33 yards, in the second half. Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson contributed 74 rushing yards, helping his team secure a much-needed victory.
