Brisbane Broncos Fortify Forward Pack with Key Signings

Brisbane Broncos Secure Key Players Amid Coaching Shift

The Brisbane Broncos have made significant strides in securing their forward pack, re-signing prop Xavier Willison until 2027 and retaining Kobe Hetherington despite initial speculation about his departure.

Willison, 22, expressed his ambition to claim a starting spot, saying, “My goal is to push for that starting position next year. I need to have a solid pre-season and work hard.”

Hetherington, 25, had been granted permission to explore other options but has opted to stay under new coach Michael Maguire. His manager, Chris Haddad, praised Maguire’s straightforward approach, saying, “Madge wants to work with Kobe, and the Broncos don’t have a suitable replacement.”

The Broncos’ forward pack is taking shape, with Pat Carrigan, Corey Jensen, and Payne Haas holding key positions. Hetherington’s versatility, playing on the edge or in the middle, adds depth to the team.

Rising prop Ben Te Kura returns from injury, while veteran Martin Taupau re-signed for 2025. The competition for starting spots and bench positions intensifies as the Broncos seek improvement from their 12th-place finish.

Maguire’s influence is already being felt, with Haddad noting, “Kobe is happy to stay and will rip into training under Madge.”
