Brighton and Hove Albion’s summer signing, Brajan Gruda, has expressed confidence in his future, both at the club and with Germany’s senior national team, despite a slow start in England. Speaking to Sky Germany, as relayed by Kicker, the 20-year-old midfielder addressed various topics ahead of the international break, during which he will feature for Germany’s U21 team, adding to his seven caps since debuting in September last year.
Gruda, who made his Premier League debut in Brighton’s recent win over Tottenham, shrugged off any skepticism about his move to England. He stated that he is unaware of any negativity surrounding the transfer and emphasized his excitement about playing in the Premier League. “It was a great feeling, everyone wants to play in the Premier League,” he said.
Brighton signed Gruda from FSV Mainz for €31.5 million, seeing him as a key talent for the future. However, with Brighton currently sixth in the league and boasting a strong midfield lineup, including summer signings Mats Wieffer and Matt O’Riley, Gruda faces stiff competition for playing time. His start has also been hindered by injuries, but he remains optimistic about breaking into both the Brighton squad and Germany’s senior team under Julian Nagelsmann.
Looking ahead, Gruda is determined to make an impact, stating that his ultimate goal is to be part of Germany’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. “I’m firmly convinced that my time with the senior national team will come,” he concluded.
