In the last minutes of Nottingham Forest vs. Liverpool’s Premier League game at the City Ground last weekend, Steve Sidwell offered his opinion on the dispute.
Nottingham Forest lost their Premier League match against Liverpool last Saturday, 1-0, at the City Ground.
In the ninth minute of injury time, Darwin Nunez, a striker for Uruguay, scored the game’s lone goal.
Play was restarted from a drop ball, but referee Paul Tierney gave the ball to Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in error.
Nunez made his way home after receiving the cross from Alexis Mac Allister. The goal was the result of defensive blunders at the back, but the preceding events were very contentious.
Referee Paul Tierney wrongly handed Liverpool goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, the ball to restart play from a drop ball.
Steve Sidwell on Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool controversy
Steve Sidwell, a former midfielder for Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion, commented on the dispute and stated that the choice was incorrect.
Sidwell said on That Peter Crouch Podcast:
“It’s bad. It’s the law. It’s the wrong decision. It’s not subjective. What he has done is incorrect. It was a monumental error!”
In my opinion, Nuno’s team should, need to accept that Forest lost the game and move on. This weekend, they face a crucial Premier League matchup against Brighton and Hove Albion.
