Leeds United faced Schalke on Saturday in their second pre-season friendly of the Germany training camp with five players left out of Daniel Farke’s matchday squad
Five players were missing from Leeds United’s pre-season friendly with Schalke on Saturday, though the club has indicated no major fears with any of them. Crysencio Summerville was added to the absentees from Wednesday’s opening game, with a hamstring complaint.
Transfer speculation has, of course, swirled around the Dutch winger this summer, but club sources insist he remains with the camp in Germany. Patrick Bamford and Daniel James were hopeful of being involved in today’s match after missing Wednesday’s fixture, but they both sat out again.
Medical staff felt Bamford could have played, but was better served by having a full training session than playing the match. James will resume full training with the team on Monday.
Harry Gray and Harry Christy were also omitted from Saturday’s matchday squad, but are not carrying any injury issues. Daniel Farke is expected to speak about the absentees after the match. The match did though provide first starts of the summer for Jayden Bogle and Max Wober.
The former began on the right of a back four against the 2. Bundesliga outfit. Wober, who was given barely half an hour against Hannover 96, started in central defence on the left of Joe Rodon. Brenden Aaronson got his second start of the camp and started on the left flank.
