After entering the Northampton Saints academy at the age of 13, Alex Coles has been a member of the team for 11 years and has now signed a new contract. The 24-year-old recently helped Saints defeat Sale Sharks to take the lead in the Premiership by making his 100th appearance for the team. He declared, “This is my boyhood club.” “I genuinely want to be a part of a team that brings in some trophies and helps Northampton succeed.”
Northampton Saints and England international Alex Coles have re-signed, the team has announced.
After first joining the academy set-up at the age of 13, the 24-year-old made his 100th appearance for the team in Saturday’s Gallagher Premiership Rugby triumph over Sale Sharks.
In addition to his 10 tries for Saints, Coles, a lock by trade, can also play in the back row. In 2022, his exploits won him three caps for England in the fall.
After making it into the first squad through the ranks, Coles expressed his happiness at having his contract renewed with the team.
He stated on the Saints website, “I’m really happy to be staying on.”
Since I was 14 years old, they have helped me through the system and have dedicated a great deal of time and energy to helping me become the player that I am. This is my boyhood club.
We seem to be cooking something unique on the pitch, so I wanted to make sure I was part of it.I’ve played with a large group of players my entire childhood, and I now truly want to be a part of a team that brings Northampton success by taking home some trophies.
Northampton leads the Premiership and the table by one point above Exeter Chiefs, their nearest rivals.
As Coles and Saints have a fantastic season, they are also at the top of their European Champions Cup group, once more with Exeter trailing closely behind.
