Breaking News: Dominic Calvert-Lewin embarrassed himself as Everton v Salford City footage surfaced…

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was at the centre of discussion once again as Everton fell to a 2-1 defeat against Salford City on Saturday (27 July).

James Garner opened the scoring for the Toffees with a smart free-kick effort before Salford equalised through an own goal and James Chester notched a late winner at The Peninsula Stadium.

Following a last-gasp 3-3 draw against Republic of Ireland Premier Division side Sligo Rovers last time out, the expectations were not overly positive heading into the pre-season friendly.

Even so, a moment from Calvert-Lewin has caused a lot of uproar among fans, with BlueGoblinEFC posting a clip of one of his shots via X, which is now doing the rounds on social media.

Uploaded with the caption “£135k-a-week”, the 26-year-old was in on-goal, with most of the net to aim at, before firing well wide and into the stand behind.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin goes viral after Everton v Salford City

There are clearly two different Calvert-Lewin’s that play for the Toffees, one of which was on the pitch against Salford on Saturday.

The other finished the 2023/24 Premier League season with seven goals, having hit a purple patch and helped keep Everton in the top tier of English football.

With the player being linked with a move away from Goodison Park [Sean Whetstone], and uncertainty growing around whether he will sign a new contract [iNews], fans have become divided over whether he should stay at the club this summer.

This footage will certainly change some fans’ minds, especially with the publisher reminding them exactly how much money the striker is earning, having scored 14 league goals over the last three seasons.

It has been suggested that the Toffees could sell the forward for as much as £30million this summer [The Athletic], and the club may take another look after his shocking performance against League Two opposition.
