Breaking News: Clinton Morrison drops Leeds United promotion verdict live on Sky Sports

Clinton Morrison has backed Leeds United to “comfortably” gain Premier League promotion this season.

TheSky Sports pundit offered his prediction after the Whites recorded their first win of the 2024/25 season with a 2-0 victory against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday [23 August].

Daniel Farke has had a rough start to the new campaign, his side were winless in the opening two Championship fixtures and suffered an early Carabao Cup exit to Middlesbrough at Elland Road but kick-started their campaign versus the Owls.

“I tipped them at the start of the season…Leeds and Burnley to get promoted and there’s other teams like Sheffield United in there that have quality as well. So it’s going to be a good season in the Championship. I see Leeds getting promoted comfortably,” Morrison said live on Sky Sports in quotes reported by LeedsLive [25 August].

Leeds United to earn promotion from the Championship this season

Leeds and Premier League promotion have become synonymous in the early stages of the new Championship season despite the dreadful start.

The Whites were tipped as favourites for the title [Opta Analyst] before a ball was kicked and will still be expected to finish in the play-off spots at a minimum at the end of the season.

Farke paid the price for his side’s late collapse last term, they dropped from the automatic promotion spots into the play-offs and suffered heartbreak in the play-off final losing 1-0 to Southampton.

It is the dawn of a new era at Elland Road, Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, and Georginio Rutter all parted ways with the club for the Premier League and the process of replacing their prized assets will continue until the 30 August transfer deadline.

Leeds have been shrewd in their recruitment thus far, signing Largie Ramazani from UD Almeria [Tim Thonrton] and the impending move of Tottenham forward Manor Solomon [Shay Lugassi] for a fraction of the cost the club has recouped in player sales this summer.

A move for FC Koln midfielder Dejan Ljubicic remains on the cards [BILD] to replace Gray, the third generation of his family to wear the Whites shirt, and will thoroughly conclude the transfer business for the summer.

Failure is not an option for Leeds this season, automatic promotion is the minimum requirement but Farke should be going all-out for the title this year with a far superior squad than those around him.
