Reports suggest Stefano Pioli might implement revolutionary changes to his Milan tactics for tonight’s derby against Inter. One major adjustment could see Rafael Leao taking on the role of center-forward, while Yunus Musah and Christian Pulisic could be deployed in new positions.
The match kicks off at San Siro at 19:45 UK time (18:45 GMT), with Inter having the opportunity to secure the Scudetto, something Pioli is keen to prevent.
According to Milannews.it, Pioli may opt for a completely new formation in an attempt to catch Simone Inzaghi off guard. Although still a 4-2-3-1 setup, Leao would be moved to the central striker position instead of Olivier Giroud.
This tactical change would allow Pulisic to return to his preferred left-sided role after a season of playing predominantly on the right. Musah, Pulisic’s teammate in the USMNT, would then occupy the right flank, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek would remain as the attacking midfielder.
In midfield, Yacine Adli and Tijjani Reijnders are favored, with Ismael Bennacer likely starting from the bench.
The defensive lineup has fewer uncertainties, with Malick Thiaw suspended, Simon Kjaer still not fully training with the squad, and Pierre Kalulu injured.
Projected Milan lineup (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Gabbia, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Adli, Reijnders; Musah, Loftus-Cheek, Pulisic; Leao
