According to a South American newspaper, Michael Beale was fired by co-owner Juan Sartori from his position as head coach of Sunderland.
Beale was fired on Monday following the Black Cats’ crushing losses to Birmingham and Huddersfield, which all but eliminated them from the Championship play-off race.
With just 64 days and 12 games under his belt, the former Rangers manager became the second-shortest-serving Sunderland manager in the team’s history.
Reputable newspaper El Pais now claims that, in an article about how the Uruguayan is juggling his political ambitions with his responsibilities at Sunderland, Sartori “picked up the phone” to fire Beale.
Fans have never really been able to understand Sartori’s role at Sunderland, as he has always been something of a mystery.
But as the most recent season of Sunderland Til I Die exposed, Sartori played a pivotal role in persuading Kyril Louis-Dreyfus to purchase the team.
In the popular documentary, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus stated, “So I have known Juan Satori since a few years.” “We got together on a small island in the Maldives where the staff used to play football, and I made the decision to join in as well as he did.
“And then we just kept seeing each other to play football in different parts of the world. In other words, I called him just to check in to see how things were going, and he informed me that the club is for sale and asked if I would like to come have a closer look.
“That is when I truly realized the football team’s size, scope, and enormous potential.”
