The Austrian international is currently nursing a calf injury
Leeds United centre-back Max Wober could be heading for the Elland Road exit door. The 26-year-old missed last night’s victory at Sheffield Wednesday because of a calf problem. It is unlikely he would have started anyway, with Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk the club’s first-choice centre-back pairing.
Reports from German journalist Marlon Irlbacher have emerged suggesting a loan move to Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach could be a possible option. The Austrian featured 16 times in the Premier League relegation season of 2022/23 but spent last year at Gladbach, playing 25 times in the German top flight. He also represented Austria at the European Championships, notably scoring an own goal against France.
The writing is seemingly on the wall for Wober and a loan move would suit all parties involved as captain Ethan Ampadu would likely fill in at centre-back if either Rodon or Struijk were unavailable.
Daniel Farke has seen a huge amount of players leave the club this summer; Georginio Rutter, Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, and Luis Sinisterra proved the most profitable of the group. However, some of the funds will have been used on securing the permanent signing of Rodon, Jayden Bogle, and the latest recruit Largie Ramazani, who joined from Spanish second-tier side UD Almeria this week.
Despite the high turnover of players, Leeds are still unbeaten in the league this season (two draws and one win) as they secured their first win of the campaign at Hillsborough yesterday evening.
After the match, Farke said: “I don’t want to speak too much about the players who are not here. Largie will get involved next week. We need a few signings to be more ambitious.. We have a handful of players without more than 20 players in the squad.”
