What then has Ornstein said about the current state of affairs at Forest? Let us investigate more closely.
David Ornstein’s remarks regarding Nottingham Forest
After Everton was awarded four of their points back this week, things are beginning to get a little interesting.
The focus now shifts to Forest, whose defense is scheduled to be heard by an impartial panel in the upcoming days.
Fingers crossed that common sense will win out in the end and that Forest is able to avoid the worst-case scenario.
Ornstein has now provided more information about the Forest charges, and while he is not certain, he believes a points deduction could occur.
In an interview with The Athletic Football Podcast, he stated: “Since the charge was made public, Nottingham Forest has adopted a different strategy that is more covert. Next week, this case will be heard by Nick De Marco, who they have hired.
“Their allowed losses are reduced because they competed in the Championship for two of the three years of this cycle. They made huge player expenditures when they entered the Premier League.
Before the accounting cut-off date for £30 million, they received one or two offers for Brennan Johnson. They might or might not have complied if they had sold him for that amount.
“They waited until the end of the transfer window and were able to get £47.5 million from Tottenham for him because they knew his market value was higher.”
They will present their profit maximization as a mitigating factor. That was outside of the accounting period, though, and that will serve as the main thrust of their defense.
They are obviously in a challenging situation. Even though a point deduction makes sense, we should not assume anything.
Club will have all the checks and balances.
It might be wise for Forest to assign Nick De Marco to stand up for the team.
Hopefully, he can deliver the goods for Evangelos Marinakis and Forest, as he has a respectable sporting record.
