On a seemingly off day for the Braves, they staged a late-game comeback to clinch victory over the Astros in extra innings.
In the series finale against the Houston Astros, the Atlanta Braves faced an early setback as they struggled to gain momentum in the opening innings. Despite Ronald Acuña’s promising start with a fly ball single, the Braves failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leaving runners stranded on base.
Pitcher Max Fried encountered difficulties in the first inning, conceding a run to the Astros. However, Marcell Ozuna’s powerful homer in the second inning equalized the score, showcasing the Braves’ resilience. Despite subsequent scoring opportunities, the Braves couldn’t break the deadlock.
Fried’s struggles continued in the fourth inning, allowing the Astros to take a 3-2 lead. Despite Acuña’s impressive home run in the same inning, the Astros maintained their advantage. Jesse Chavez relieved Fried in the sixth inning, but the Astros extended their lead with another homer.
The Braves mounted a remarkable comeback in the eighth inning, narrowing the gap to 4-4 through Michael Harris’ run and Orlando Arcia’s sacrifice fly. The game progressed to extra innings, with the Braves taking the lead in the top of the tenth courtesy of Arcia’s clutch single.
Raisel Iglesias entered the game in the bottom of the tenth to secure the victory for the Braves. Despite walking the first batter, Iglesias induced a game-ending double play, sealing the Braves’ sweep of the Astros.
