BILD MOVE – Leeds United will need a ‘mega offer’ to sign Austrian midfielder

Leeds United are currently focused on the wings with the ongoing Jonathan Rowe and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi saga. There are front runners in both the situations and the bad news is it’s not Leeds.

The club will have to decide fast on their replacement for Crysencio Summerville. The Dutchman left Elland Road a few weeks ago for West Ham United in a deal worth £25 million plus add-ons.

Leeds are going to need a new midfield signing very soon as the window moves towards closer on the 30th of this month.

Having sold Archie Gray and Glen Kamara, Joe Rothwell’s arrival has been a necessary one, but not the only one the club should be content with.

Back in July, it was reported that Leeds had submitted an opening offer to 2.Bundesliga club FC Köln over their midfielder Dejan Ljubicic.

A £3.4million bid, Leeds were rebuffed on their initial approach as the German outfit looked to hold out for more money, despite the Austrian being in the final year of his contract.

The latest came this week from Bild, who shared Köln’s stance on the matter, that it would take a “mega offer” to convince them of selling.

Meanwhile, the player himself is said to be considering his options amid Leeds’ interest that emerged last month.

Ljubicic would be a fine signing for Leeds in midfield if they get any indication that Köln’s valuation will drop before August 30.

However, his presence in the side is not the be all and end all for Leeds’ midfield recruitment plans this month.

He would improve Leeds’ midfield depth, but there are other targets out there that could easily suit Leeds just as well, if not better, while also adding more of a consistent goal threat.

Now that the season is up and running, more clubs will be making late decisions on players that they may be willing to cash in on, especially in the Premier League.

Knowing that we need a big offer to prise Ljubicic from Köln, the club should already be onto new targets to ensure we aren’t going into the campaign with three senior midfielders.
