Before facing a heavyweight from Europe, Hibs’ hero expressed his happiness to be back at his former club abroad.

Liam Henderson, a Hibernian hero, is eagerly anticipating a clash with a European giant as he reintegrates into the fold abroad. Henderson, remembered fondly by Hibs fans for delivering the corner that led to David Gray’s winning goal in the 2016 Scottish Cup final against Rangers, has been plying his trade in Italy since 2018. Currently at Empoli in Serie A, the 28-year-old has had stints with several Italian clubs, starting at Bari, moving to Hellas Verona, and later joining Empoli permanently after spells at Lecce and Palermo.

This season, Henderson has made nine appearances for Empoli and is looking forward to a challenging encounter against Napoli, where he could face fellow Scots Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay. Speaking to TuttoMercato, Henderson expressed his gratitude to Empoli manager Roberto D’Aversa for restoring his confidence after a difficult period at Palermo, praising the coach’s direct communication and positive impact on the team.

Henderson acknowledged the tough task ahead against Napoli but stressed the importance of teamwork and unity on the pitch. He also highlighted the strength of Gilmour, recognizing the progress of Scottish players in top European teams, including McTominay.
