Key highlights from the Yankees’ Grapefruit League game on Friday:
Explosive action!
The Yankees’ top lineup excelled, as Anthony Rizzo hit two homers, including a grand slam, and Juan Soto smashed a 419-foot blast off the batter’s eye.
Defensive players take the fall.
A pop-up dropped into shallow left field, eluding both third baseman DJ LeMahieu and shortstop Oswaldo Cabrera. LeMahieu initially positioned himself under it but then turned to look at Cabrera, and the ball landed between them.
Grabbed my attention.
Former Met Daniel Vogelbach hit a home run off Gerrit Cole in the first inning, complete with a bat flip. Cole seemed to be amused, even chuckling, as Vogelbach circled the bases.
When asked about it later, Cole commented on the date, indicating it was still early in the year, and acknowledged that Vogelbach enjoyed the home run.
When questioned about remembering it in the regular season, Cole grinned and said, “I don’t forget a lot of things.”
Activities planned for Saturday.
Marcus Stroman is set for his second spring start, and the Yankees will face the Orioles for the first time at 1:05 p.m. in Sarasota.
