Carlton Palmer maintains that the Sunderland goalkeeper would have a hard time refusing a move to Parkhead.
Carlton Palmer, a retired England international, acknowledges that Anthony Patterson may find it difficult to turn down an offer from Celtic. However, he believes that Celtic will need to spend a significant amount in order to secure the goalkeeper’s move to Parkhead. Sunderland Echo reports that Celtic has entered the race alongside Arsenal and Liverpool to sign the 23-year-old, who played a key role as Sunderland’s first-choice goalkeeper during their journey to the Championship play-off semi-final last season. Despite Sunderland’s current mid-table position, Patterson has had a successful season, managing to keep 13 clean sheets in 44 appearances across all competitions.
Joe Hart has retired from professional football and it is anticipated that Benjamin Siegrist, the current backup goalkeeper for Celtic, will also depart next summer. As a result, manager Brendan Rodgers will be actively searching for a new first-choice goalkeeper. According to EFL pundit and former Premier League midfielder Palmer, signing Patterson for Celtic could be a suitable option.
