Anthony Gordon provides update on his injury status

On Sunday, Anthony Gordon suddenly pulled up in pain with no opponent near him. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was then forced to substitute him with the Magpies leading 2-1 against Nottingham Forest.

Harvey Barnes stepped in for Gordon and quickly put the game to bed, scoring a brilliant end-to-end goal assisted by Sandro Tonali. As Gordon limped around the City Ground, it seemed almost certain he’d miss the November internationals with England.

Gordon, who appeared to aggravate a hip issue, has now addressed the media. With nine England players already dropping out of the squad due to injuries, he was asked if he’d considered the same. Providing an update on his situation, he said:

“No, that wasn’t a possibility [to drop out of the England squad]. I came here to be assessed and see how it is. The staff here thought they could help me with the injury, and they’ve done that. They’ve done an excellent job because I’ve been training right away. The hip issue has eased now. It’s something I’ve dealt with for a few weeks, but there was no way I wouldn’t be here.”

It’s encouraging news for Newcastle fans that Gordon’s substitution was precautionary, addressing soreness rather than a severe injury.

With a demanding schedule ahead, Gordon also spoke about his relationship with manager Eddie Howe, especially amid recent club managers withdrawing their players from England duty. Gordon shared:

“My manager Eddie Howe loves England. Every time I return, he congratulates me on each cap. It’s great to have that support from him. He’s English, and he wants to see England win.”
