Advisor tells Newcastle what to expect in summer transfer market as ‘huge overhaul’ message sent

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness suggests that while Newcastle United may not undergo a significant squad overhaul this summer, they could still potentially secure “a huge signing or two.”

Despite experiencing a challenging season marred by injuries and an early exit from the Champions League group stages, Eddie Howe’s team has managed to stay competitive, currently occupying sixth place in the table.

The defensive setbacks, particularly the long-term injuries to key players like Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles, have fueled speculation about potential signings, with names like Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth and Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham being mentioned as possible acquisitions on free transfers.

Additionally, there have been previous links to Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot. However, Wyness, now an advisor for elite clubs, suggests that Newcastle may not undergo major changes in the upcoming transfer window.

“I think there will be some ins and outs – but not a huge overhaul,” he told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast.

“But they do have some injured players to come back. We’ve all heard that returning players can be like new signings, but in Newcastle’s case – they’ve got some huge quality and depth missing through injury.

“There may be just a couple of extra key areas they need to strengthen. I think Eddie Howe has done a great job and the club can go forward next season with a renewed strength and a deep squad if, as expected, they get a huge signing or two.”

Newcastle return to action on Wednesday (kick-off: 8pm) when they travel to Crystal Palace in their battle to secure European football.
