A former defender for Southampton FC discusses his retirement

Former Saints defender Ryan Bertrand has announced his retirement from football at the age of 34. Bertrand, who made 240 appearances for Southampton before leaving in 2021, spent two seasons at Leicester City under Brendan Rodgers before leaving in 2023 and remaining without a club since.

 

In an interview with Sky Sports, Bertrand expressed his gratitude for his football career and clarified his retirement status. He emphasized his excitement for his future in the business side of football, hoping to contribute to the sport’s evolution. Bertrand stated that he had prepared for this transition and is eager to embark on this new journey, focusing on the business aspects of sport and his future role in football’s development.
