Sheffield Wednesday are on the verge of securing their third summer signing, with a medical examination scheduled for today, according to The Star. The Owls have already announced the signings of Ben Hamer and Max Lowe, both free agents, who will join from Watford and Sheffield United respectively at the end of the month. Now, it appears that a permanent deal for Tunisian international Yan Valery is imminent as the 25-year-old prepares for his medical at S6.
Last week, The Star reported that Wednesday had reached an agreement with French club Angers regarding a fee for Valery. Valery has previously worked with Owls manager Danny Röhl during their time at Southampton. Despite interest from European clubs Montpellier and Standard Liege, who were keen to secure Valery’s services, the French-born defender expressed his preference for a return to England, with Röhl playing a significant role in his decision to join Wednesday. Valery, a versatile player often deployed as an attack-minded right-back, will bolster the Owls’ flanks. He recorded five assists in Angers’ successful Ligue 2 promotion campaign last season.
The Owls’ transfer activities are expected to remain vigorous in the upcoming weeks. Röhl has acknowledged the challenges of the market at this early stage of the summer but mentioned that the club has identified a list of quality players as they approach the peak of the transfer window. Wednesday aims to finalize most of their incoming deals as soon as possible to enhance team cohesion and allow for a comprehensive pre-season program under their German manager.
