Leeds United’s failure to secure promotion back to the Premier League in their first season after relegation has presented several challenges in the summer transfer market. Financial constraints are evident, exacerbated by contractual clauses giving players leverage to potentially seek another loan move away from the club.
Brenden Aaronson has returned from FC Union Berlin, with his struggles during the loan period playing a significant role in the decision. Meanwhile, Maximilian Wöber, currently on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach from Leeds, is desired by the German club to stay. However, negotiations hit a snag.
According to Bild, Gladbach is interested in keeping Wöber, but Leeds has set a high asking price of €15m. It’s unclear if Wöber is among the players whose contracts include clauses triggering an extended loan spell if Leeds remained in the Championship.
While Gladbach is keen on retaining Wöber’s services, they seem reluctant to meet Leeds’ valuation at this stage.
