Aston Villa prepared to compete with Spurs for 24-year-old center-back

According to a report in L’Equipe (via GFFN), Aston Villa are set to compete with Tottenham and other clubs for Nice center-back Jean Clair-Todibo.

It has been well documented over recent weeks that Tottenham want to bolster their options at centre-back this summer. Last month, GFFN suggested that Spurs are ready to reignite their interest in Nice center-back Jean Clair-Todibo.

Todibo Could Be Set for Summer Transfer

The outlet explained that the Lilywhites made a move for the Frenchman back in January but were priced out after the Ligue 1 club demanded €60m (£51.1m) for the player. However, Nice are now reportedly willing to sell the center-back for €40m (£34m), which has caught the attention of both Spurs and Manchester United.

In an interview with The Telegraph two weeks ago, Todibo admitted that he has had conversations with the Red Devils and the Lilywhites in the past.

Aston Villa Enter the Race for Jean-Clair Todibo

L’Equipe has now suggested the possibility of Todibo leaving Allianz Riviera, revealing that the defender has been informed he is free to go. The report mentions that several clubs are now monitoring his situation, with Aston Villa being the latest to join the race.

The publication adds that the Villans, who have qualified for the Champions League, are keen to strengthen their squad and have identified Todibo as a key addition to their backline.

 Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see Tottenham paying £35m-£40m for a fourth-choice center-back. I suspect that the North London club ended their interest in Todibo once they signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa back in January. Tottenham should instead consider giving Alfie Dorrington a chance in pre-season and allocate funds towards a striker and a number six.
