Trading within the division is rare, especially for star players, but the Sabres must leverage their prospects and picks to make the playoffs. Buffalo faces three major issues: a struggling power play, poor performance in the faceoff circle, and a need for more physical and mental toughness.
The Sabres’ power play, which dropped to 28th this season, should improve with new coaching. Adding Tkachuk would further enhance their offensive options, as he has scored 30 or more goals in the past three seasons and excels on the power play.
Buffalo’s softness was highlighted by Dylan Cozens, who criticized the team’s lack of toughness. New head coach Lindy Ruff is expected to instill greater intensity, but the Sabres also need external reinforcements.
