Leicester City enter the race to sign Mohamed Konate – sources

Leicester City are eyeing a deal to sign Burkina Faso striker Mohamed Konate when his contract ends, sources revealed to Football Insider.

Konate, 26, will be a free agent this summer after his contract with Russian Premier Liga side Akhmat Grozny expires. Besides Leicester, French clubs Brest and Lyon are also interested in securing his services to strengthen their attacking options.

This season, Konate has netted 13 goals across all competitions, making him an attractive prospect for Leicester, especially given his free-agent status. With a mandate to FIFA agent Willie McKay, Konate is exploring potential moves during this transfer window.

Amidst financial rule breaches and the possibility of a points deduction upon their return to the Premier League, Leicester is looking at cost-effective options like free transfers. Their budget constraints necessitate such strategic signings this summer.

At 6ft 3in, Konate offers a different dimension compared to Patson Daka and Tom Cannon, adding versatility to Enzo Maresca’s squad. With Kelechi Iheanacho rejecting a new contract and attracting interest from Aston Villa, Konate could potentially fill that void.

Konate has a history of moving clubs as a free agent, having made six such transfers in his career, per Transfermarkt. Internationally, he has scored six goals in 25 appearances for Burkina Faso and featured in the latest Africa Cup of Nations, scoring once in three matches.
