There was some pre-transfer window season drama with Thierry Small among certain Addicks. Nathan Jones was fully in favor of Southampton mutually canceling Small’s contract and offering him a short-term contract at The Valley while he was finalizing his own agreement with the team. Both the organization and the player had some security with the deal’s optional year. Now that the one-year extension has been approved, the player and the club will talk about extending the contract. I felt that Small, who started in 14 of Jones’ 16 games as manager, was our finest player. Small, who is still only 19 years old, is a true athlete. Unlike several players in SE7, Small never got into the starting lineup until he was chosen for the road match against Bolton and only made one substitution.
Unfounded rumors were going around that teams, including Spurs, were allegedly keeping an eye on him with his agency prior to him signing the agreement. He will, in fact, play for Charlton next season, and I can’t wait to watch more of him. He clearly appeared to be having fun while under the spell. However, it could indicate that we have made progress on the field if Small and other players are being monitored by Spurs and company at the end of the following season.
