The administrators of the Stadium of Light have been very clear and uncompromising about how things would be conducted under the current administration. However, in the last few weeks and months, they have started to come down from their high horse and adopt a more open-minded perspective. They had serious problems with their recruitment last season because they were focusing primarily on developing players for the striker position, which prevented them from having a proper number nine for the campaign. According to Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman, they plan to expand their search this summer. Something comparable has occurred.
With their coaching search, something similar has transpired. At first, they requested that the candidates either bring a member of their team with them or work with the backroom crew that had already been formed. They appear to be more willing now to allow head coaches to bring their own staff members along. The bad season they recently had must be the catalyst for these changes in mindset. They placed 16th in the league and, during the second part of the 2023–24 season, never really seemed like a threat to finish in the top six, as they had done the year before.
Better outcomes might happen now that they are compromising a little on their ideals. Alternately, nothing will change, and they might even strengthen their initial ideas.
