Former Packers executive Eliot Wolf named VP of player personnel for Patriots

Eliot Wolf, son of the esteemed Hall of Fame general manager Ron Wolf and with over a decade’s experience in the personnel department of the Green Bay Packers, assumes a significant role as the New England Patriots’ executive vice president of player personnel. Though not holding the official title of general manager, Wolf will wield authority over crucial aspects of the Patriots’ operations, including personnel decisions, managing the salary cap, and shaping the 53-man roster.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity, Wolf acknowledges the honor of joining the Patriots organization and extends appreciation to the Kraft family for their trust. He also acknowledges the unwavering support of his family, particularly his wife and children, as he embarks on this new chapter of his career. Wolf’s journey into this role has seen him actively involved in overseeing the Patriots’ personnel affairs during the offseason, a responsibility that extended to their participation in the 2024 NFL draft, where they selected North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye with the third overall pick.

With a professional trajectory spanning nearly two decades, Wolf’s tenure in Green Bay from 2004 to 2017 illustrates a gradual ascent through various roles within the Packers’ personnel hierarchy. Starting as a pro personnel assistant, he steadily climbed the ranks, serving in roles such as assistant director of pro personnel, assistant director of player personnel, and ultimately assuming positions as director of pro personnel, director of player personnel, and director of football operations.

Following his tenure in Green Bay, Wolf transitioned to the Cleveland Browns, where he spent two years under John Dorsey before making the move to the Patriots. During his time with New England, Wolf served as the director of scouting, honing his skills and expertise in talent evaluation and acquisition.

Now, as he steps into his role with the Patriots, Wolf assumes responsibility for overseeing the team’s roster decisions, a task previously handled by the legendary Bill Belichick, who departed from New England following the conclusion of the 2023 season.
