55,000 Ipswich fans attend the “special” bus procession.

55,000 Ipswich Town supporters packed the streets to cheer on their promotion-winning side during an open-top bus procession.

As the players were led from Sir Alf Ramsey Way to Christchurch Park, exuberant spectators yelled and lighted flares.

The festivities reached a peak with a crowd of 35,000 crammed into the park following the march, according to the Ipswich Borough Council.

In front of a delighted Portman Road crowd, the Tractor Boys defeated Huddersfield Town 2-0 on Saturday to secure promotion.

Both inside and outside the stadium, it created a festive mood across the town.

Pubs were packed far into the night, and player Conor Chaplin’s face was projected onto Ipswich Town Hall.

The council described the celebrations as a “special” occasion in a social media video.

“Seeing so many people celebrating was truly amazing,” it read.

During a significant clean-up effort that took place between Saturday and Monday, council employees gathered eight tons (8,000 kg) of rubbish.

According to the authority, 34 employees worked through the weekend to maintain the town center’s cleanliness.

“Thanks to our incredible team, you’d never know,” it said.
