Reflecting on a season filled with conflicting feelings at Reading FC, manager Ruben Selles voiced his pride.
With goals from Sam Smith, Harvey Knibbs, and Femi Azeez, the Royals defeated Blackpool 3-1 at home to round off their League One season on a positive note.
Selles declared, “I’m really proud of how we worked throughout the season and how we came back and got the points.”
I’m pleased with my effort. We were able to score three goals after falling behind 1-0. We had a tough game, but I’m really happy with our performance.
“The most important thing for us and the fans is that we want more and we’ll make a commitment to return in order to obtain more of that.” It’s the ideal feeling to bring the season to a close and use the next two months to prepare for it.
Selles went into further detail about the bond that developed between the supporters and the players as they joined together to rejoice after full time.
“The last six months have been incredible; we’ve been developing into that and interacting with the fans,” he said. We have created something quite magical in the end.
“I would like to believe that we have established a solid foundation for the club’s future prosperity and that the fan base will remain connected for the next 100 years, during which time the supporters should be present at the stadium to support the team.
“The manner you end a performance is always essential. The triumph provides us with a taste of our desires. It’s usually a good idea to get motivated for the upcoming task.
We experienced the same thing against Burton; this has happened a few times this season, and it bothers me. We were able to fix that, and it’s one of our main strategies for managing comfort so that we don’t give up the early goal.
“We were able to recover, score the goal prior to halftime, and emerge victorious.”
