Texas’s Arlington Josh Jung, the injured third baseman for the Texas Rangers, underwent evaluation for a broken wrist on Friday in Arizona. Although his recovery is going well, manager Bruce Bochy stated that it will take him longer to return.
Bochy said those things prior to the Reds’ game at Globe Life Field on Saturday.
Due to a broken wrist, Jung hasn’t played since the first whole week of the season.
He’s doing well, according to Bochy. “He’s still not here yet. Maybe four, five, or six weeks. He is progressing.
Bochy said he would return to the field in four to six weeks. That window would close in late May if Jung were prepared to make his comeback.
Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran are still platooned at third base by the Rangers in the interim. With Bochy scheduled to give shortstop Corey Seager a day off, Duran was originally scheduled to start on Saturday. Smith may have played shortstop as a result.
However, Bochy moved Smith to third and took Duran out of the lineup for the day in order to start Seager.
Smith, who had a.293 batting average, one home run, and twelve RBI going into Saturday’s game, has been the hotter bat of late.
Jung is listed as injured for 60 days at this time. When he was injured, he was batting.412 with two home runs and six RBI.
In the fourth game of the season, 26-year-old Jung suffered a broken wrist against Tampa Bay. This is just another setback in an injury-plagued career that began when the Rangers selected him out of Texas Tech in the first round of the 2019 draft.
Jung hit.266/.315/.467/.781 with 23 home runs and 70 RBI in 122 games as a rookie last season. Although he missed more than a month following the All-Star break due to a fractured thumb he sustained while attempting to field a line drive, he was voted the AL Rookie of the Month for both April and May.
