Saints honor boy who passed away from cancer at Stoke match.

The mother of a young Saints supporter, who succumbed to an incredibly rare brain tumor, expressed that her son would be filled with amazement knowing that his beloved club is honoring him in today’s match.

In memory of CJ Fenna, who peacefully passed away on April 11th, applause will echo through St Mary’s Stadium during the seventh minute of the match against Stoke City. At halftime, the seven-year-old from Sholing will be commemorated with a formal tribute by the club. His mother, Johanna Lamb, expressed that CJ would have been overwhelmed by the gesture, appreciating the support and fundraising efforts made on his behalf.

CJ’s health challenges began in late 2021, initially manifesting as difficulty with basic bodily functions. Despite initial misdiagnoses, CJ’s condition deteriorated throughout 2022. In September of that year, he was hospitalized after exhibiting symptoms of brain swelling, leading to the discovery of a rare form of cancer known as Diffuse Leptomeningeal Glioneuronal Tumour of Childhood.

Following surgery to remove the tumor, CJ underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy. Despite receiving support from his favorite football team, Southampton FC, and player James Ward-Prowse, CJ’s health continued to decline. In February of this year, the family was informed that treatment options were limited, and CJ was transferred to Naomi’s House, a children’s hospice.

Throughout CJ’s battle, a fundraiser was launched to aid the family financially, raising £3,792. After a courageous 19-month fight, CJ passed away peacefully, leaving behind his parents and siblings. His funeral will be themed around his beloved football club, Southampton FC.

Johanna expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support, emphasizing the invaluable assistance provided during CJ’s treatment and the opportunity to create lasting memories with him.
