Best/Worst Case Situations for the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL Draft’s first round in 2024

The Seattle Seahawks are 48 hours away from the start of the 2024 NFL Draft, and they could be one of the most interesting teams to watch going into the first round with a number of needs to address and several suitors expected to inquire about trading for the 16th overall selection. Picking in the middle of the first round means that a lot of different dominos could fall before the Seahawks are on the clock, creating a number of scenarios to be prepared for.

The Seahawks will have to wait until after the Russell Wilson trade to make their first selection, unlike last year when they had a top-five pick thanks to that trade. This means there are several options for players that could become available once they are eligible to play, depending on how many quarterbacks and receivers are selected in the first 15 picks. It’s likely that at least one blue chip defensive player, like Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, or an offensive lineman, like Washington tackle Troy Fautanu, falls to them, which will probably pique other teams’ interest in making a trade.

In the most recent episode of Locked On Seahawks, hosts Corbin Smith and Rob Rang discuss the best and worst case scenarios for general manager John Schneider and his staff. They also discuss how selecting all five quarterbacks in the first 15 picks could improve Seattle’s chances of selecting a standout with pick No. 16 or landing a haul in exchange for a trade down. Additionally, Smith and Rang grade listener-submitted mock drafts in the seventh round and conclude their pre-draft scouting reports with day three cornerbacks who might be of interest to the Seahawks, beginning with a local prospect in Khyree Jackson of Oregon.
