Gregg Broughton, Blackburn Rovers’ Director of Football, expressed openness to welcoming Lewis Travis back this summer.
Blackburn Rovers sent the midfielder on loan to Ipswich Town, a fellow Championship team, during the January transfer window. Travis, aged 26, is set to return to Ewood Park at the conclusion of this season, when his temporary agreement with Portman Road ends.
According to a report from the Lancashire Telegraph, Gregg Broughton, Blackburn Rovers’ Director of Football, expressed in positive terms their attitude toward Travis’s return. Broughton stated, “Lewis is an exceptional footballer and individual. I thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with him during his tenure at the club.
I mentioned during the summer that I interacted with him nearly every day amid the ongoing challenges. It felt like I was seeing him more frequently than my own family at home! We eagerly anticipate his return, and our relationship with Lewis remains strong.”
Latest Update on Ipswich Town Loanee at Blackburn Rovers.
Travis was permitted to depart Blackburn Rovers during the recent winter transfer window under the management of former boss Jon Dahl Tomasson. However, since his departure, there has been a managerial change with ex-Birmingham City figure John Eustace taking the reins.
Despite his absence, the Lancashire-born player may still find a place in Blackburn’s plans beyond the current season. Travis remains under contract until June 2026 and could see a rejuvenation under Eustace for the upcoming term. Having joined Blackburn Rovers as a teenager from Liverpool in 2014, Travis made his debut three years later and has since amassed 223 appearances for the club, contributing six goals.
Travis experienced a stagnant period with Rovers under Tomasson, prompting his departure when Ipswich Town showed interest. Since then, he has featured eight times for Ipswich Town under Kieran McKenna as they vie for promotion alongside clubs like Leicester City, Leeds United, and Southampton. Their next fixture is an away clash against Hull City next weekend.
Meanwhile, Blackburn Rovers are scheduled to face Sheffield Wednesday at home on Sun.
