The summer contract of Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso is up for grabs, and Aston Villa is reportedly interested in signing him.
January saw the emergence of reports indicating Villa’s interest in Hermoso, the center back for Atletico Madrid. Though he remained with the La Liga team, there is continued conjecture on his future. With no indications of a contract extension, Hermoso’s deal expires at the end of the current campaign, allowing him to negotiate a free move with clubs outside of Spain.
Unai Emery made a brilliant move when he signed left-footed Spanish defender Pau Torres to the team last summer. Is he able to pull off the same ruse with Hermoso this summer?

According to Marca, he has already had discussions about moving to B6 when the transfer market opens, and Aston Villa is one of his possible destinations.
Hermoso is being eyed by other clubs besides Villa. Teams from the Saudi Pro League and Serie A are apparently interested in signing the 28-year-old center back, however no specific team has been mentioned.
Saudi Arabia clubs tipped to sign Aston Villa target Mario Hermoso
The story indicates that Hermoso’s move to Saudi Arabia seems to be the most likely outcome, with them being the newest entrants in the competition for his signature, even though no specific teams are mentioned.
The defender has allegedly been given a new contract by Atletico, but it has not yet been accepted. This has led to a lot of conjecture about his summer transfer to another team.
Hermoso, who left Espanyol to join Atletico in 2019, has made 165 appearances for the team. Despite beginning his career with Atletico Madrid’s bitter rivals, Real Madrid, he was instrumental in helping the team win La Liga in 2020–21.
Hermoso has also played a significant role in leading Atletico to the Champions League quarterfinals this season. He has appeared in all eight games so far, including the entire 120 minutes of the team’s previous round of 16 match against Inter Milan earlier this month.
