Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley will be in demand this summer amid Premier League interest.
Mat O’Riley, a midfielder for Celtic, would ‘absolutely’ be sought for by Parkhead during the 2024 summer transfer window, according to GIVEMESPORT sources.
Under Brendan Rodgers’ direction, the Hoops are presently leading the Scottish Premiership standings and are looking to win the league at Celtic Park for the third time in a row.
O’Riley has been an integral part of the Bhoys’ success in the last two seasons and may be at the center of a summer transfer controversy. A number of Premier League and European teams have expressed interest in the midfield player in recent months, and he may be on the move by the end of the 2023–2024 season.
O’Riley faces ‘big’ summer decision on next steps
The midfielder was the subject of reported interest from Atletico Madrid in the winter
According to GMS sources, O’Riley will be ‘in demand’ this summer, with a move to the Premier League a distinct possibility. The 23-year-old arrived at Parkhead from Milton Keynes Dons during the 2022 winter transfer window for a fee of £1.5m.
Since then, O’Riley has established himself as a regular under the management of both Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers, becoming one of the club and division’s leading players. According to a report in Tipsbladet in February, Celtic valued O’Riley at £25m after Atletico Madrid made a play for his services during the 2024 winter transfer window.
O’Riley’s services were rejected late in the transfer window by Championship power Leeds United last summer, indicating that the Hoops star is already in high demand come the end of the 2023–2024 campaign. According to GMS sources, the Denmark international has a busy summer ahead of him and may decide to depart Celtic Park. Head coach of the Houston Rockets, Aaron Rodgers, will be anxious to keep O’Riley on board after calling the gifted youngster from London a “wonderful player”:
O’Riley generating Premier League interest
Brentford and Brighton are keeping an eye on his condition.
According to our sources, O’Riley could draw attention from Premier League teams as well as foreign parties. Brentford is ‘like’ the midfield player, and Brighton & Hove Albion has been ‘watching him closely’. The chance to relocate back south of the border and join one of Europe’s top five leagues may seem too good to pass up for O’Riley.
GMS insiders also know that Leeds would be inclined to make a bid for the Celtic star if they get promoted to the Premier League, giving the former Fulham player a different path back to England. If the Hoops can get enough money for O’Riley’s services, they might be inclined to sell him. With three years left on his contract, the reigning Premiership champions hold all the cards in potential negotiations.
