“The Chicago White Sox Make Moves, Part Ways with Grizzled Veterans Mike Moustakas and Kevin Pillar”
Reports indicate that the Chicago White Sox have decided to part ways with two seasoned veterans. On Friday, the team released three-time All-Star third baseman Mike Moustakas and outfielder Kevin Pillar, as confirmed by USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.
Both Moustakas and Pillar had recently inked minor league deals with the White Sox, aiming to secure spots on the team’s Opening Day roster. Despite their efforts and solid performances, the 35-year-olds were ultimately not included in the final roster selection.
Instead, the White Sox opted to sign another veteran player who was part of the Texas Rangers’ 2023 World Series roster.
Moustakas boasts an impressive resume, having earned three All-Star nods during his career, particularly shining as a key member of the Kansas City Royals. However, his recent performance at the plate has shown a decline, with his batting average and home run numbers dropping since his last All-Star season in 2019 with the Milwaukee Brewers.
As for Pillar, he contributed to the Atlanta Braves’ lineup last season, playing in 81 games and tallying 9 home runs and 32 RBI, despite facing some challenges with his offensive production.
The White Sox’s decision to release these veterans suggests a shift in their roster strategy, opting for different options as they prepare for the upcoming season.
