Girls Participated in STEM Activities and Basketball Drills in Honor of Women’s History Month.
In observance of Women’s History Month, the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Academy held its inaugural Lady Ballers Youth Basketball Clinic earlier today.
60 girls participated in the clinic, which was sponsored by Google and held at the Carl E. Sanders Family YMCA in Buckhead. During the clinic, girls between the ages of 8 and 15 studied the foundations of basketball, investigated the fascinating intersection of science and technology, and acquired useful life skills. In order to help girls rise above the competition, the Lady Ballers Program strives to empower, challenge, and motivate them to succeed both on and off the court.
“Our Lady Ballers Clinic is dedicated to creating a welcoming and secure space where girls can come together to enjoy the game of basketball while also gaining valuable life lessons,” said Hawks’ Vice President of Community lmpact and Basketball Programs Jon Babul.
“Our program focuses on fostering a sense of inclusivity and empowerment, encouraging girls to develop their skills, build confidence, and form lasting friendships through the sport.”
Google volunteers, personnel, and Atlanta Hawks Youth Development Coaches assisted in coaching and teaching the girls through various basketball stations and STEM activities during the clinic.
Girls in attendance got the chance to hone their basketball talents via a variety of on-court activities, including passing, shooting, rebounding, ball handling, agility, and defense drills. Jr. Hawks coaches and volunteers helped the girls play basketball on the court during the clinic.
The children also constructed catapults to investigate and test the laws of physics while launching little basketballs onto a mock court. Participants afterwards took home prizes and freebies, such as a bracelet, swag bag, and t-shirt.
